The screen of my TV is cut off...?

I've tried changing the aspect ratio on the TV and the on the cable box, but still in every view it is cut off. Even when it is set to %26quot;normal%26quot; and there are black borders on the screen it still cuts off the picture. Does anyone know how to fix it? It's extremely irritating hah. • What is the effect of Wn (NMOS) on oscillation frequency of differential logic ring oscillator?

Well, differential logic oscillator is based on using set of differential inverter rather than normal CMOS inverter in chain. As we change the aspect ratio of NMOS (Wn) the frequency will reduce due of increaing of the gate delay, but for bigger values of Wn the freq. will going down to zero? so how we expline that. thankxWhat is the effect of Wn (NMOS) on oscillation frequency of differential logic ring oscillator?were the hell did you cut and paste that from.....?

How can i get a bigger resolution on my NEW Toshiba Satellite L355-S7915?

    Hi

I bought a new laptop for work today.

The reoultion, when at it's biggest, still cannot view the program I Need for work. It''s called Telemagic. Is there anything I can download and install so that it will make my resolution larger, or somehow change the aspect ratio? It is a 17 inch wide screen. can you please give exact links and instructions? It is windows vista basic, 32 bit...

IF I INSTALL WINDOWS XP, will I be able to get a much better reolution then? I need a 1600 X1200. Will that work on a widescreen? I need the biggest resolution as possible.

Thanks a bunch!!!How can i get a bigger resolution on my NEW Toshiba Satellite L355-S7915?Display Resolution: 1440x900

    Blu-Ray Player/HDMI Question.?

Ok, so I am the last person on earth to finally get a Blu-Ray player and I am watching a DVD on it (Sweeney Todd) and after all of these years with the %26quot;letterbox%26quot; bars that I have become used to, I now have the movie filling up the screen.

I know this doesn't sound like a problem, but I am so used to those bars that I feel like the movie is on %26quot;zoom%26quot; mode, which it is not and I feel like things are stretched out...although I don't think they are.

I can change the aspect ratio on the player to give me 4:3 Letterbox and I have been going back and forth to see if anything looks different and I can't tell.

My TV is not in Zoom mode, and my Blu-Ray player is currently set to 16:9 ( I can not change it because it knows it is hooked up via HDMI cable) and the only way to change it to 4:3 is to tell the player that the input is 480p.

Ok...I guess here is my question.

Is the movie SUPPOSED to fill the entire screen for a DVD or Blu-Ray disc? I love that it does, but after all of these years of the black bars my mind thinks it is on zoom and it seems too clear...if that makes any sense.

How is it supposed to look?

    Equipment:

    LG BD-300 Blu Ray player

    Visio VX 42L 42%26quot;

I don't even know what the hell my question is anymore...I actually miss the damn black lines...Blu-Ray Player/HDMI Question.?Relax. Your TV has a 16:9 (1.78:1) aspect ratio. So does the movie (See link), so it should fill the screen.

I'm sure you will get your comfortable black bars back when you play a movie with an AR %26gt; 1.78:1.Blu-Ray Player/HDMI Question.?why didnt u just get a PS3, it woulda been a better deal, since Blu Ray players are made from Sony, and so are PS3s so the quality is still the same. and u can enjoy everything a PS3 has to offer as well as a blu ray player...

and YES it is suppose to look like that, dont worry its not in zoom.

and grats on the Bluray player anyway..

and if u want, it may help to turn the lights off when u watch a movie, u wont even notice the bars arent thereBlu-Ray Player/HDMI Question.?there should be something on your setup menu called video settings that says dvd aspect ratio or some thing like that... check to see if the aspect ratio is pan and scan or letterbox... the pan and scan sounds like the setting you are on right now so change it to letterbox... when you have a 16:9 (which is a widescreen) tv every thing should be in letterbox then you will see the bars... but the aspect ratio of the disk matters also if it is a 1:85:1... you will have no bars up top and if it is a 2:35:1 or 2.40:1 you will get bars

    hope that helps

Help Again!: I have a JVC TV and COX cable. On non-HD channels it doesnt fill up the screen...?

My tv is an older hdtv set and has 4:3 ratio screen. When I turn to an hd channel it automatically switches to 16:9 which is perfect. But on non-hd channels it displays in a 4:3 ratio but it wastes a 3%26quot; black %26quot;frame%26quot; around what's being displayed. In essence, this is turning my 37%26quot; tv into a 31%26quot; on non-hd channels.

The solution has nothing to do with zooming or stretching or changing the aspect ratio. None of that helps

  • Question for video experts on the new HD LCD & Plasma TVs?

This may sound like a dumb question but I honestly don't understand something about the new large HD televisions (LCD and Plasma's). They are all %26quot;wide screen%26quot; format now (versus the old square tube TVs) and I believe the aspect ratio is 16:9. I always read this would allow us to watch movies in the same aspect ration as they are shot (widescreen) so that you don't have those 'black borders' at the top and bottom of you screen like we would watching a widescreen movie on the old square tube TVs. OK, so now we finally bought the HD wide screen LCD tv, and watch movies (on the DVD player). They are widescreen format. So I am thinking the entire screen area will be full, top to bottom, on the new LCD widescreen TV. But still, I have a small area of black space at the top and bottom of the screen. Of course you can change the aspect ratio on the TV and do a %26quot;zoom%26quot; to fill in the entire screen area, but then you lose some of the video area off on the sides. Why does all this happen? I mean, my question is, if the new HD big-screen TV's are built to this %26quot;wide screen%26quot; format now (wider than they are tall) - How come the films we watch don't match that aspect ratio perfectly - why are we still getting small strips of black area at the top/bottom of the new TVs? I thought that would be a thing of the past. Thanks for explaining, I am not a video/TV expert.Question for video experts on the new HD LCD %26amp; Plasma TVs?An excellent question. Originally, %26quot;widescreen%26quot; 16:9 ratio TVs were sold as the ultimate movie experience. Although these TVs do show much more of the picture than the old 4:3 TV sets black borders are still required for films shot in true widescreen formats. These real widescreen formats have cinema screen aspect ratios of any where between 2.19 - 2.45 : 1. Philips have just launched the world's first true cinema TV screen, a monster 56%26quot; screen with an aspect ratio of 21:9, as opposed to 16:9. Check it out at www.philips.co.uk.Question for video experts on the new HD LCD %26amp; Plasma TVs?Actually, this is a very common question. The answer is that there is more than one %26quot;standard%26quot; for the movie industry. Some of the standards are not as tall as 16:9, so you still get a little unused space at the top and bottom. But at least you don't get the sides of the picture whacked off like in the old analog days!

ADDITIONAL ANSWER: The shows you mentioned are produced for TV so therefore follow TV standards. Movies are the problem, if Hollywood would go to one format, then that problem would go away, too.Question for video experts on the new HD LCD %26amp; Plasma TVs?Yes some movies are shot in extra wide mode so you will get bars top and bottom, not all movies are shot in the 16:9,some are like 21:9.So what you see is how it was filmed in the first place, and can be shot in even wider modes,Crazy.

Can you help me with a Windows Vista problem?

Since I got my new laptop with windows vista all my recordings and TV shows files were changed into an aspect ratio of 16:9 and I can檛 turn them back, even in movie maker the option of aspect ratio change doesn檛 work. I guess windows adapted the TV shows to fit my screen but now even the original file is changed. Or was the Windows Player that altered the original files? Either way vista doesn檛 let me change a thing- How can I make the original file to be 4:3 again? Can you please help me?Can you help me with a Windows Vista problem? You post is a bit confusing - maybe you could lcear some things up.

First - I can gaurantee you that your old recordings where not %26quot;converted%26quot; to 16:9 without you knowing. depending on how many you had and how big, it would have taken hours if not days to convert it all and you would have noticed it going on.

Second - if you are talking about new shows that you are recording, then that is a different story. there you are probably right about Windows adjusting accordingly. Also, since you have a new laptop, I will assume you have a digital tuner (ATSC). If you are recording off the digital stations, then you will record in the format that they broadcast in. For anything in HD, then it will almost always be in 16:9.

Third - are you sure that the 4:3 files are really 16:9 now - or just streched out on your screen? Change you disply setting to a %26quot;square%26quot; resolution (1280X1024 will do) and make sure that it is set to %26quot;Maintain aspect ratio%26quot;. You will know you did it right when you see black bars on the left/right of your desktop. Then check your old shows and see if they show up right.

Finally, if %26quot;somehow%26quot; the magic pixies actually did %26quot;convert%26quot; your files without you knowing it, then you need to convert back. This means using a program like Virtualdub and cropping out the recording.

If you acutally do convert even one show with any program, you will see how long rendering takes and will then believe me when I say nothing %26quot;converted%26quot; by itself without you knowing about it.

Please don't be %26quot;offended%26quot; by the %26quot; %26quot;'s in this post. Just there for emphasis, since we can't use bold or italics.

    ***EDIT***

(so others know what we are talking about!)

    Subject: Hi!

Message: Thanks for trying to help me :) i'll try to explain a bit better my problem. The thing is all my shows that were in the usual 4:3 tv format, the files now wherever I play them (windows player, quicktime, etc) appears as a 16:9 ratio, and the scary bit is even the icon of those shows when in the folders are shown in the same ratio. in my windows xp the miniature for that show was a square and now is as arectangular shape. Even in movie maker I cannot change it to fill all the 4:3 screen in movie maker. I didnt do anything to the files except put them inside the computer. So what do you think it happend? What i really want is for the shows go back to their previous aspect ratio even if they dont stretch to fit the computer screen.

Thanks so much for helping :)

Based on this, it sounds like you are talking about the aspect ratio you are viewing, not of the file itself. (I could be wrong on this). Try adjusting your display settings.

now, to be absoluty sure about what ratio the files themselves are in, try G-Spot. It is a free codec information tool that will give you all the details of your files.

    http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/inde

(click on the downloads link under the table)

This will tell you what format the files are in, regardless of what you are viewing them on. If it turns out they are still 4:3 but you see them 16:9, then it's your display settings. Can you help me with a Windows Vista problem?Ok, first off you'll need to cry a bit,

when you've done that, re-install your previous operating system (windows XP SP2 is a good bet)

take your vista disc, hit with a hammer until reduced to powder, feel better, meanwhile all your videos have been restored thanks to you returning to a workable system.

seriously though, vista is software poison, you were better off with your previous system (yes even if it was windows 95)

You need to find %26quot;full screen%26quot; movies. These movies have been reformatted to fit your 4:3 full screen TV. SOme movies have both formats. Many times it will be full screen on one side and widescreen on the other side. read the back of the disk case if it does not say widescreen or full screen on the front packaging.

It is usually listed in a grid like box on the back cover which details the sound and video formatting of the disk. Although this is not always true. If you are unsure just read the whole back cover.Widescreen dvds? why are all dvds in widescreen? You may have options to force the movie into full frame via the DVD player if your TV doesn't have that. My DVD player has it (it never gets used - you see more of the movie in widescreen). There may even be a zoom or picture size setting that you can adjust. This may alter the picture depending on how it works. My TV just zooms a widescreen movie so it is looking at a full frame section, while my DVD player will stretch/shrink the movie to fit.

The other option is to make sure that you are purchasing the full frame versions of movies. Most movies come in both formats, either separately or on the same disc.Widescreen dvds? why are all dvds in widescreen?DVD's are not all in widescreen you can get fullscreen if you look around the widescreen is designed to give you more of a theater look vs chopping off the edges to make it fit to full screen. The widescreen is suppose to give you the look the director intended.Widescreen dvds? why are all dvds in widescreen? Is it happening with movies that are labbeld full screen. Or are they just the wide screen format movies. That will make a difference if it is cause there is no way to change it. But if not i dont know what the problem is.Widescreen dvds? why are all dvds in widescreen?Widescreen is the way movies are shown in the theatres....it is the way the makers of the film (ie the producers and directors) intend the movie to be seen. The movie is shot to fill a rectangular shaped screen....like the one you see in a movie theater....the black bars are just empty space not used.

Full screen movies are altered from their original version....they cut off the left and right sides and stretch the remaining image so it will fit those old square shaped tv's. So you're saying you prefer half of the picture stretched out to fill your tv rather than the full picture with black bars representing the empty space?

You can always go back to VHS....although you won't be seeing any new releases....or get a widescreen display.Widescreen dvds? why are all dvds in widescreen? That's because movies since about the 1950's are shot in the widescreen aspect ratio.

If you prefer not to watch your DVDs in widescreen there are a couple of things you can do.

Some DVDs are have two aspect ratios for watching movies,

widescreen and full sceen, you prefer the full screen, just select this in the main menu of your DVD, or flip it over, some DVDs have widescreen on one side and full screen on the other.

When purchasing a DVD make sure it has full screen aspect ratio on it, it will say on the outside of the DVD box.

I need to take a photo at least 400 pixels wide in 4x3 aspect ratio how do i do that with my digital camera?

I have a 3.2 mega pixels digital camera and i can change size on my camera to

    2048x1536

    1600x1200

    1280x960

640x480 my question is what do i set it on to get 400 pixels wide in 4x3 aspect ratio with landscape format??I need to take a photo at least 400 pixels wide in 4x3 aspect ratio how do i do that with my digital camera? The closest setting to what you need is the 640x480 setting, however it is still too large (width 640 vs. your need of 400).

I would suggest taking the photo at the largest size possible (2048x1536) then re-sizing the image in some kind of image editing program. Photoshop is the most well-known image editor out there, but you can also download GIMP:

    http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/

What you'll need to do is go to Image%26gt;size and then set your width to 400 pixels, and you want to maintain the aspect ratio.

Then you need to see if the height is 300 pixels (it's probably not - it's probably 267. If this is the case, then undo your re-size, and this time do it again but by setting the height to 300 pixels. So your width will be 450.

Now, you'll need to crop the image to have a width of 400 pixels. Once you've done that, save the image as %26quot;some_name.jpg%26quot; and you're done.I need to take a photo at least 400 pixels wide in 4x3 aspect ratio how do i do that with my digital camera? All those pixel dimension pairs are 4x3 aspect ratio, so all those settings meet that requirement.

Your first statement says %26quot;at least 400 pixels wide%26quot;. All those settings are more than 400 pixels wide, so that requirement is met too!

If you meant that you have to end up at exactly 400 pixels wide, you will have to use photo editing software. Find the Resize function and do a Resize with Resampling to set the width at 400 pixels.

Theoretically, you could do it in-camera too. Take a pic at 640x480. Bring up the pic in Review mode and zoom up to 1.6x. That is like dividing by 1.6, so you would be at 400x300. Now save the new cropped pic.

(However, my camera went ahead and resampled and saved it back at 640x480! So it must depend on the camera...)

    Camcorder 16:9 aspect ratio?

Even when my camcorders settings are changed from 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9 aspect ratio, When I view the video on the editing program that came with the camcorder (panasonic sdr-h40p) it shows it in a widescreen format with no black bars anywhere. (The ratio is 704x480) But when I view it in windows movie maker or on anything else it has two black bars along the left and right portions of the screen? How is this 16:9 aspect ratio?Camcorder 16:9 aspect ratio? What happens is that your camcorder is probably shooting %26quot;anamorphic%26quot; 16:9. This means that the video is actually cropped and stretched a bit to be recorded in 720x480 4:3 - or in this case, 704x480 but close enough to 720x480 (note that 720x480 doesn't mathematically come out to 4:3, that's because video pixels aren't really square, but that's a topic for another day). So, what happens is that the video is recorded as 4:3, but when it's played, your player stretches it back out to 16:9, approximately 853x480.

I'm not sure how to do this in Windows Movie Maker, and I'm trying to think of a good workflow to keep you from having to convert more than necessary, but the goal here is to get WMM to see your video as 16:9 video. Are you by any chance using an intermediate program to convert your video for WMM? If so, which program? For some reason the aspect ratio changes to (what I think) is called 4:3; basically it centers itself on the tv, and there are the black gaps on the left and right. TV Picture Stretched...?

Hey guys my TV recently messed up (Don't know why) and the picture stretched. The image on the screen is too far out to the side, therefore some things like the start and end of subtitles will be cut off at both ends of the screen.

What's going on here? How can I fix it?

*Note* changing aspect ratio does nothingTV Picture Stretched...?Check on your remote if you have a menu with settings for brightness, hue, etc.

If you do, there may also be a setting for x-offset, y-offset, x-skew, and y-skew. If you find this, adjust the x-skew to eliminate the stretching.

If you have a cable/satellite setup, then make sure you check all remotes (eg. the remote for the cable box, the remote for the tv, etc.) except for VCR, DVD, and audio. This setting could be on any remote that controls the TV screen itself.

Lastly, if this doesn't work, then please let me know what happened before and after the TV screwed up. For example, did someone fiddle around with it?

Hope this helps!TV Picture Stretched...?First off there won't be anything in your regular menu to adjust x/y settings. You can only access that through the service menu which is something you shouldn't mess with unless your a trained technician or really know your way around it. I highly doubt it's because of that anyways.

Since you said your problem didn't go away by pressing the aspect ratio button; I'm assuming your on another imput besides the TV imput. Were you watching a DVD w/ the subs on? If so it's probably your DVD player in zoom mode. Try pressing the zoom button until it gives you the correct view. If that doesn't work try going into the set up menu and change the output to the type of TV you have. e.g. 16x9 or 4x3.

  • What exactly do I need to change in photoshop to match my 32' LCDs background?

Hey all, this may be a little confusing to anyone who doesn't know anything about the Xbox 360.

I recently made a picture in photoshop (just text, and a patterned background) and was going to make it a background or theme for my xbox 360. Well, it turned out to look VERY BAD! The resolution and everything looked bad. It wasn't as sharp or anything.

I heard it has something to do with the aspect ratio, 16:9 or something like that, I just remember getting help from someone else and doing everything they say, and no matter what it still turned out bad.

I have a 32' LCD, and I basically need to know exactly what dimensions i need on my pallet in photoshop, how to change the aspect ratio, everything. If anyone has the time to help me out it would mean a lot, I've been trying to do this for six hours straight and its getting quite frustrating.

    thanks all!

PS - Could it be because I'm running my Xbox 360 at 720p? (even though I beleive my LCD itself is doing that anyway?)What exactly do I need to change in photoshop to match my 32' LCDs background? You need to change the canvas size of your image to the resolution of your monitor. Generally, 720p LCDs will have 720 pixels vertically, but the exact pixel dimensions will be different for different screens.

Try searching the web for your TV's model number, and the specs on sites selling or reviewing the TV will list the exact pixel count. Good luck!

How can I change the aspect ration on an 50' Toshiba DLP. Link to model to follow....?

    http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/televisions/

I know 16:9 is a better aspect ratio for viewing but I beleive it is set to 4:3. Also, it states its display resolution is that of 720P, yet when I tune it on it states it is set to 480P which is much weaker. When I tune on the XBOX 360 it states it is viewing in 1080I which I know can not be seeing it will only view to 720P however the resolution is much more crisp. So any TV or tech guru's care to chime in I would much appreciate it as this is driving me nuts! How can I change the aspect ration on an 50' Toshiba DLP. Link to model to follow....?It sounds like what you are seeing when you turn it on to watch television is a standard definition program which has a maximum resolution of 480p and is in the 4:3 aspect ratio. Not all programming is in High Definition and you will either need an OTA (over the air) HD antenna, or a HD service from either a cable or satellite company. When using a cable or satellite company they will have separate channels for HD. For instance, say you want to watch a basic channel like ABC in HD. ABC may normally be on channel 5, but the HD channel will be on 375.

For your Xbox 360, it displays 1080i because most 720p sets are also capable of the 1080i resolution. Usually it is best to stick with your TVs native resolution, 720p in your case, to make sure it is running as intended. Feel free to try both though and choose the one you like more. If you do decide to change the resolution for your 360, you need to go into the %26quot;System%26quot; blade on the 360 and go to your display settings. You should be able to change the resolution it outputs from there.

I previously had a CRT monitor (aspect ratio 4:3) but recently i bought a ACER LCD monitor and my monitor resolution seem to be stuck in 4:3 resolution i cannot change it to 16:9 aspect ratio I have tried downloading their drivers but it does not work in windows xp.Can any one tell me if i can do this by any other alternate means (by registry editing or something plz guide me then)? Please help. How do I set my aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 ?I have a 16:10 screen and had the same problem when my resolution was set to 1024 by 768 pixels.

Your screen is most likely 16:10 because 16:9 is more common in widescreen tv's, most widescreen laptops/computers are 16:10.

So to fix this problem for me I had to change my resolution to 1280 by 800 pixels. This made everything very small though so I had to adjust some settings to make it possible for me to see what I'm doing.

I had to set my font size in appearence to large fonts. Also I went in the advanced mode and put up most of the font sizes for everything, I just played with the numbers until everything was big enough.

Hope this helps. How do I set my aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 ?The problem maybe with your video card not the monitor drivers.

Check your video card and download the latest updates.

The video card should automatically detect the allowed configurations from your monitor. You will need to reboot your PC though.

    First,

Hook your camera directly to your television and play back something you've already recorded. It should show up on your TV as being 16:9 if you in fact recorded it that way.

If it doesnt show up on your TV in 16:9 then you are SOL and there is no need to try anything else.

If it is 16:9 on your TV then it is your editing software that needs to be adjusted.

Open the Capture Settings in whatever software you are using and make sure you are capturing the video from the camera in 16:9, not 4:3

your PC will detect to what maximum level your graphics card can support.

An ideal graphics card for a wide LCD should have 256meg . At the same time I have friends who are satisfied with a 128meg graphics card. It's a matter of personal choice.

Since you have a wide LCD which is a sign that you can afford, get the 512meg card.
