Camcorder 16:9 aspect ratio?

Even when my camcorders settings are changed from 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9 aspect ratio, When I view the video on the editing program that came with the camcorder (panasonic sdr-h40p) it shows it in a widescreen format with no black bars anywhere. (The ratio is 704x480) But when I view it in windows movie maker or on anything else it has two black bars along the left and right portions of the screen? How is this 16:9 aspect ratio?Camcorder 16:9 aspect ratio? What happens is that your camcorder is probably shooting %26quot;anamorphic%26quot; 16:9. This means that the video is actually cropped and stretched a bit to be recorded in 720x480 4:3 - or in this case, 704x480 but close enough to 720x480 (note that 720x480 doesn't mathematically come out to 4:3, that's because video pixels aren't really square, but that's a topic for another day). So, what happens is that the video is recorded as 4:3, but when it's played, your player stretches it back out to 16:9, approximately 853x480.

I'm not sure how to do this in Windows Movie Maker, and I'm trying to think of a good workflow to keep you from having to convert more than necessary, but the goal here is to get WMM to see your video as 16:9 video. Are you by any chance using an intermediate program to convert your video for WMM? If so, which program? Maybe we can then come up with a good way for you to get to WMM with widescreen video.Camcorder 16:9 aspect ratio? But, I had questions for you! We'd like to help you solve this!
